Lynn, in mid 2002 I installed a K627 Dunlop, a 17-incher, on my GK, using the spare wheel off an old GS850. It lasted me about 4,000 miles. It worked fine, with no problems -- other than it peeled off in no time.
Good thing I'd bought it real cheap on eBay, so I couldn't complain much.
It's basically a good replacement tire if you're going to sell a bike anyway, but don't count on it lasting as long as a K491, for example.

Where does the K591 stand when compared to the longevity of these tires? Mine seems to be wearing away quicker than expected.

I can identify with that, Lynn, especially now that I'm retired. Gotta watch the pennies, and not just during Christmas.
The K627 will be just fine. As I said before, I had no complaints about handling, braking, cornering, etc. It will be interesting for you to report, Lynn, how much mileage you get out of it.
As for the K591, Steve, that's one tire I've never tried on any bike I've owned, so I can't report on it.

the 491 is about the best you can get out of a Dunlop, Good tires, I have used them before and currently run them now, I ran a Bridgestone between Dunlops, great ride, 4000 miles later I was removing them...I am staying with the Dunlops.

From a cost per mile perspective, the Metzler 880 rear and 88 front are hard to beat. That combination was good for 15000 miles on my 750.

DUNLOPS
Not doing high mileages,I'd never buy Dunlops as from my experence they perish much faster than any other tyre I've tried ie. Michelins,Pirellis,Cheing Shin,IRC or Avons or Nang kang.

It has been my experience that Dunlops get AT LEAST the same, and in most cases MORE mileage as any other brand of motorcycle tire. They seem to stick as well in any weather conditions, as any other tire. For my money, safety, and peace of mind, I'll keep running K491's on the ol' GK.

The Dunlop Qualifier 627 and a Qualifier F-11 were the stock tire on the V-65 Sabre that I had. The 627 wasn't a bad tire but it is an older tire on the Sabre I would get about 7000 out of a rear. I think the Elite II 491s feel better and I got about 16k out of a rear.

That is starting with new tire that have to be replaced before I get home. The 591 was one of the stickiest tires I ever had on the Sabre and I did really like the feel though it took some getting used too.
With the Sabre bunch the new hot tire set up seems to be going with radials even though the tire manufacturer doesn't recommend them on Sabres. You can get close to the stock sizes but you have to run an 80 profile instead of a 90.

Mike: I suspect that my 591 is going to go in the same direction yours did. My itty bitty 400 was worn it's rear tire down over 1/2 way in about 2500km. Luckily I got an incredible deal on it due to it being two years old so I won't feel too burned when I pull it off in another 1500km. Ofcourse I could take it to a track day as it only wears in the middle.

Mine is getting square too! I would have liked to get the metzlers, couldn't afford them. I have a ME33 on the front, has been a very good tire and is wearing beautifully after 7K and should be good for another 5-7K
