    Making it run real good

In the new year it's time to do some serious GS tuning. I've had it a year now and the cosmetics, lubrication, tyres, brakes, new regulator & stator wiring mods, air filter and plugs (got some 'cheap' Iridiums) have had the royal treatment. It runs fairly well for all that. Starts fine with no choke unless really cold. Idle is sometimes a bit erratic - can vary from 800 to 1500 rpm between rides and with temperature

So theres a carb overhaul & balance, shims and timing left. Anything else and what order should they be best tackled?

a good carb sync will smooth out the bike nicely for you. i'm not sure how adjusting the valves feels yet...we haven't had mine running since we shimmed it.

I would do the valves first as they can affect the tuning when you are trying to sync the carbs
Also since the carbs will be removed I would change the intake boot O rings

And don't forget to re-torque the head before adjusting the valves.

Good tips. Thanks all. The O rings might explain the idle problem.
