tires and rims

I would like to run tubeless tires on the 1980 GS750 I recovered from salvage. The rims are cast Enkei but they don't say acceptable for tubeless like some later models do. Does anyone know when Suzuki started producing tubeless rims for the GS models, just in case I need to rumage again at salvage. Thanks, Carl.

It was 1982, at least with the GS850G and GS1100G. The older GS850G and GS1000G ran with the Enkei rims that were not marked tubeless.

We've had this discussion before. There are folks out there who run old style rims tubeless, even though not marked as such. I'd hesitate to take that risk, although some have and it works for them.

These wheels are interchangeable. In other words, one may put a tubeless newer wheel on an older GS, or an older tubed type rim on a newer GS.

On the 79, 80, and 81 GS850G the rear wheels are marked tubeless, while the front wheels are not. Weird, but I'd follow the manufacturer's recommendation, and I do.

I have a 1980 GS1000gl.
The rear tire is marked for tubeless application
and the front one doesn't say anything.
I took the front one to the shop to have a tire put on it
and he said it had to have a tube in it, I guess for liability purposes.

That's the way it's supposed to be, Mobetter. I'm glad your dealer installed the front with a tube. It's the right thing to do.

Keep your eye open for a front wheel off a 1982 model. They're perfectly interchangeable, these wheels, and the 82 front wheel is marked tubeless.

The original front wheel off my 1984 GS1100GK was a tubeless design, but the previous owner put a ding on it, which I didn't notice until I took the wheel off the bike. So, I got rid of that wheel and replaced it with one off a 1979 GS850G. It fits perfectly, but, regretably it isn't a tubeless one. Yet it works fine, so I don't complain.

In the meantime, I keep my eyes open for a cheap tubeless one off eBay or some other place. It isn't an urgent thing, though.

Thanks for all the info. A quick call to salvage and I have a front wheel, a small nick, but with the lovely casted words, " tubeless tire applicable". Now I need a rear. My GS750 is a E so I need a sprocket drive. Does anyone know of an 18", tubeless, that will interchange. I have to admit I am a little speechless. You guys solved half my problem in a matter if minutes practically. Thanks, Carl.
