ok Im board,its -10 degrees in massachusetts.I was just thinking what limits the max rpm on my 83 gs 1100 to 8500rpm ? Is the stock cam profile/valve spring arrangement the limiting factor? And if so,what is the max safe rpm for the crank with top end profile cams in these engines.

I had my 80 1100e to 10,000rpm's or so way past the red line with no problems. Sure miss that bike. Not really sure how safe it was though. -
One time at the track I kick it into a lower gear by mistake and the tach went above 12K. Now I have a rpm limiter set at 9200.1166cc 1/8 ET 6.09@111.88

At about 8.500 rpm (and full throttle) the second gear "flopped out? on my GS1150 -84 and the needle went far beyond 11.000 rpm.
The engine-sound told my ears that this is the probably end, but the engine ran fine after that little disturbance.......
So I would say that our engines could stand more than the spec. 9.000 rpm.Comment
