    BS34SS Needle Jets

After much experimentation and mucking around the final result is that my needle jets (#3 cyclinder in particular) are worn out.

My local dealer says that there are none in the country (NZ) and not sure what they are worth. I am waiting to hear back from him regarding availability ex Japan. Bikebandit says that they are not available, which leaves a bit of a problem (although I haven't finished researching availability).

So the question is do the Dynojet of K&N kits include the needle jets? It doesn't appear so but I just thought I would check.

    Thanks
    Anthony

Anthony what is the number stamped on the needles? It also should be in your manual. I may be able to help if all else fails...

Anthony i brought some K&L kits from www.siriusconinc.com (no problems with freight to NZ) they did not contain the needle jets. They also supply keyster kits which i am sure do come with needle jets. They should be alot cheeper than the $80-00 NZ that my local suzuki dealer wanted for 1 needle and seat. The 4 k&L kits cost me $123-00 USD freight inc.

Try Sudco, they have a website and are great to deal with. Good prices too.

The needle jets according to my manual state 'X-1' (have not pulled needle jet to confirm), which is not listed at www.sudco.com nor it seems is there a kit at www.siriusconinc.com . Have emailed both so we'll see what happens. Still browsing www.partsfish@powersportspro.com but not looking promisng-will send them an email.

I assume it would be a good idea to replace the jet needle at the same time as replacing the needle jets?

            Cheers

What is #3 carb doing, running rich just off idle to 3/4 throttle? Why do you believe the needle jet is worn?
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Number 3 is running way too rich (fouling) from just off idle to 3/4 throttle, float height is fine, float itself is good, needle valve is fine and o-ring is new. All 4 carbs set up exactly the same plugs 1,2 and 4 are good. Have plenty of spark (new Dyna ignition, new coils, leads, caps, plugs). Very reputable mechanic had no hesitation is saying needle jet, neither have others.

I'm not contesting what your mechanic says but since you're having a hard time finding needle jets, I would first do a test. Have you tried swapping the needle jet #3 with #4 and see if the problem follows?
Another VERY common thing is to vacuum sinc the carbs incorrectly. Just a 2cm higher level than the others will result in a rich condition at these throttle positions. Did you see the bike get synched? I've seen many people waste time blaming the carbs, when it was just a synching problem. Another richness problem at #3 carb can be a leaking petcock allowing fuel into the vacuum line.

Thanks Lynn for the vacuum correction. Slowly but surely I'm learning more about the BS CV carbs.

That's too bad, I have a extra set of carbs from a '84 ESD and they have the X-2 needle jets wich are different, sorry.

Swapping the jets between two different carbs is a great idea to confirm the diagnosis. I'd email Sudco. I've dealt with them before and they are good people. They don't list your size, but they have obvious connections at Mikuni. This place, http://www.carbparts.com/, might be able to help. They don't list them but I've gotten things from them before that weren't listed. There is someone that participates here from time to time that is able to reproduce some carb parts. I think it might be Robert Barr.

Well, needle jets for the 1100ex are no longer available according to my local Suzuki dealer. I find that quite amazing.

Have had email replies from siriusconinc.com, Sudco, and motorcyclecarbs.com, all unable to help. Just waiting to hear back from partsfish@powersportspro.com but I don't like my chances.

So there are there are a few options (2nd hand needle jet-maybe, replacement carbs, or maybe get a machine shop to recondition the jet-if possible) but in all all a might pain in the rear end.
