    Electrical Harness

    greetings all.....
    I have a 1982 GS1100GK,that I picked up for next to nothing.
It needs a wiring Harness.(Ibought it from a kid that messed with it).
Also, could I get any info. on The Dana or whatever optional electrical kit.
The current ignitor box is fried, and a replacement costs around $400.00.
Any addresses to used parts like seats, etc.,would be appreciated.
Also, have been told that the stators are known for going out.Any truth to this? The Bike has 43,000 miles on it.
    I appreciate any responces!!

Nick is our GK expert , I'm not sure Dyna III may work on your bike, you would have to retrofit a mechanical advance unit from an older GS750/850/1000 if yours is not equipped
If the wiring harness is beyond repair First place to check would be your local Suzuki dealer or you could make one if you are capable. The GK was Suzuki's big touring bike, there are parts out there you just have to be creative to find them. if the seat need recovering You could send it to Sargents, Corbin $$$$$$$ Or have your local upolstery shop redo it. To check the electrical (charging) system you need to have the bike running just because it has 43K doesn't mean it is bad

Joseph, if money is a major concern, there are three Suzuki ignitors available on e-bay right now.

If there a difference in the different models?

I am not certain, but it seems reasonable to me that if it fits a four cylinder bike, then it may work on your 4-cylinder bike. I believe the firing order is the same on all GS engines, and the voltage carried internally within the ignitor unit is definitely identical on all models

There is also an ignition pick=up available. Check on the applications.

Is the stator likely to fail? In a word, yes. More likely, however, is that the Regulator/rectifier will fail first, and take the stator out with it.

Cool the R/R, (a computer fan should help....I will try this in spring), run a separate ground wire from the battery to the R/R box, or relocate it to a spot that has a lot of airflow. Solder any wire connections necessary in doing this.

Wiring harnesses come up on e-bay. Look for one there, but don't restrict yourself to just e-bay. I got a brand new one for my GS1100G...and paid US50. for it.
