Headlight and bucket with replaceable bulb

I want to remove the sealed beam headlight from my GS450S (which looks to be 6.5 inches) and replace it with one that uses replaceable halogen bulbs. Looks like the bucket off my GS850L would be a close fit for the brackets, and might not look too bad since it would be inside the fairing. But I ain't a gonna pull the light off my cherry 850 to put on the orange menace...

Anyone have any ideas as to what would fit a little better? Or maybe a crusty bucket and bulb from a 850L?

It is for use with replacable bulbs and you can order the standard bulb model or the halogen bulb model.

I have ordered LOTS of stuff from these people, so I can vouch for them being A++++. If there is any question, they also answer their phone and are happy to discuss anything you are trying to locate.

That looks like it would work but I hate to spend 50 bucks for a headlight assembly to go on a 200 dollar motorcycle, especially when it is hidden behind the fairing.

But if no other options present themselves, you have given me one.

i had a bad sealed headlight on 81 450 but not the money to buy a whole replacement either. I bought the 5 dollar halogen bulb, and with a pliers and some other tools was able to remove the old bulb, and then i just trimmed the metal around the new halogen a little to fit and it worked. I rode with it for 3 months and never had a problem. I know it's probably not the best way to fix it, but it definitly worked.

I found a generic headlight/bulb assembly to fit my GS550 for $60.00CDN, (10% of the value of the bike) that's about the going price for an entire new unit. It was sold for Hondas but it fit right in no sweat. Also keep in mind, the 'L' series I believe, used smaller headlight assemblies than the standard bikes for that oh-so-cool custom look.

I did the same thing with my bulb (stuck a halogen bulb in it) but the light pattern is, shall we say, HORRIBLE

Is yours a round or rectangular lamp?

I bought a rectangular unit as a spare for my GS1100GK. It was advertised to fit mine, and it looked OK in the advert, but it turned out to be too small.

This one has mounting brackets, main lamp, and there is a halogen bulb in it. I am not certain of the size, but I can check that when I get home.

Bulb is 7 inches across the face, laterally across the centre

Bracket is Susuki part number 3510-03

Headlight is Stanley part number HP 18 F



Sorry, but you would still need a bucket for it.
