Hi, my name is Brett I live in Sydney, Australia. I have a gsx 550 ef 84 model and am pretty happy with it. Almost. It needs more balls!. But seeing as my last bike was a very worked rg 500 that is to be expected. Seriously though I like the gsx it is very comfortable, but I wish it went as well as the gsx 750 es 83 model I had 6 yrs ago. This brings me to the question - " Will the motor out of a gsx 750 es/f etc 83-84 model fit into my 550 with relative ease?". And if it will I was thinking of putting an 850 top end onto it as well!. YEEHAH!. That would go nice!. I would be very interested in hearing thought's, idea's, opinion's etc. Surely someone has done this conversion before. I can't be the only nutter!. Also if anyone knows will I be able to use all the 550 wiring, tacho etc?. Are the wires the same colour?. I'm hoping it would be a slip in fit and connect up to all the same wire's. I can't see why it would n't if I get one out of the same year model. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

the 750 swap into your 550 frame sounds plauseable however why not go for the 1150 :twisted: -

It's plasable to put a 750 in the 550 I imagine it will be a very tight fit the GS550 frame is much smaller than the GS750/1000 series. I don't think The 1100 will fit It's about 1.5 in taller than the 750. GS850 top end won't work either 80's GS750 is a 4 valve motor the 850 is a two valve motor. I have been told is possible on the older two valve GS750 to put GS850 top end on. The ign module will have to be changed??? timing curves may be different????Comment

Having a 550 EF I would venture to say NO, not without major surgery! The valve cover is within 1/4 inch of the tank, the carbs barely fit into the frame as is (the downward curve of the backbone would get in the way), and you still have to wiggle the vavle cover out. How much taller is the 750? 1 inch, maybe 1.5...
But I would really love to see you succeed! I think your other issue would be tires, the biggest I can fit without surgery is 130/90/18. I think with a little metal cutting and ditching the chainguard, a 140 might be possible.
