    ok to use steel wool?

is it ok to use very fine grade steel wool to clean up my combustion chamber. I put the spark plugs in and set the head so it was facing upside-down, then filled the combustion chambers with solvent...now i just need to scrub them a little, hence my question.

    thanks, Ian

I would have to say NO to that. The small steel fibers get embedded. I would use a coarse scotch brite pad. (you can get one at Home Depot, Automotive stores, or paint stores)

The last time I was at Home Depot I saw Brass Wool which should also work.

Brass wool would also make good packing for exhaust cans. Shouldn't burn out like the glass packing. Even a layer of brass followed by the glass should keep from burning out the glass.
