1100 and 1000 motors

I have both 1100 and 1000 engines and parts in my garage (and on the garage floor) and some of the parts are easy to tell apart, and some are not.

What is the basic, easy way to tell an 1000 from an 1100?

I have one (a 1000 ?) that has 3 studs to hold on the oil filter cover, and the others have 5 studs (a 1100 ?)

But ..... do some 1000 motors have 5 studs? Do all 1100's say 3100MI on the cases and 1000's do not ?

Just trying to sort through everything.

1000 or 1100

As far as I'm aware only the 1000s had 3 studs

My '83 'GK 1100 has 3 studs on the filter cover. :twisted:

All 2 valve 850', 1000's and 1100's have the three bolt oil filter cover. The 4 valve 1100's and 1150's have the five bolt covers.
