    Can I paint my engine?

Ok all you GS motorheads, answer this...

Can I paint my engine cooling fins without worrying about overheating problems?

I want to paint the engine with high temp flat black and then remove the paint from the edges of the fins. Whadda ya think?

Black paint radiates heat (read-> transfers the heat) faster
    than silver metal.

Go for it. Use a high quality engine paint, good for 1200F,
I think. Don't worry about it overheating from this. A lot
of serious sport bikes (HI output, hi horse) came with
    black painted engines.

I went to the local hardware store and bought a can of B.B.Q. paint...it is great, looks good and did exactly that.......rubbed off the fin edges.........looks very good!!

My bikes engine is painted flat black and I haven't had trouble with heat. The only problem is that I'm afraid to power wash the engine since my boots have been peeling off the paint at the pegs already.
