    Hoes...Er...HOSE, What size hose?

Um, what size hose do you need to connect the petcock up to the carbs.

I want to install an inline shutoff valve so I went out and got some hose that was clear and it was too small to go over the fuel inlet nipple on the carb. I even tried heating and streching it but the hose tore up instead.
Then after trying again heating streching and letting it cool the hose apparently was too soft to push onto the nipple and it kept buckling.
Went to use the needle nose pliers to pull it on and it tore again.
I believe the heat compromises the strength of that particular hose.

Anyhow it was too small. So what is the right size?
    Bike is a 1981 GS750L with 34mm CV carbs.

I use 5/16" for the fuel and 3/16" for the vacuum. I don't know where the heck you'd find metric line...my dealer doesn't either. Also, I would keep away from the acquarium line, I used to replace it every year when I had a snowmobile. It gets really hard and even uglier with age.

My 79 750E uses 5/16" for the fuel and 1/4" for the vacuum line.

Awesome, Thanks guys. I will go buy some 5/16th fuel line hose today at lunch.
        One more question...
The 80's+ GS bikes come with CDI ignition right?
Just asking cause I've bid on a set of Coils on EBAY that say they're for CDI ignition. Mine's a 81'GS750L so I think I'm safe.

        Thank you,
