    Crankcase sealer

    I'm about to put my cases back together. In the past, I've used Gasgacinch, but times change and better products may be out there...what are you guys using to seal your cases when you assemble the two case halves?

    Yamaha Bond #3 or #4(I'm not sure about the number), but I think it is #4. I'll check when I get home this afternoon. Good stuff BTW.

        You're welcome and BTW, called my wife and she verified for me that in fact it is YamaBond #4.

          Yamabond is made by ThreeBond. Their #1104 is the same as Yamabond 4, in case your local dealer doesn't carry it under the name Yamabond.

              Yamabond can seal anything, best gasket maker/sealer I have come accross, my TT's right side cover doesnt even have a gasket in it, just yamabond and it hasn't leaked in four years.

                I went to the Yamaha dealer to find the Yamabond 4 and they had only Yamabond 5 and Yamabond 6A...what is the difference between the various Yamabonds? The guy behind the counter was clueless and all the mechanics had gone home for the day.

                  According to this - http://www.parkeryamaha.com/browseproducts/Index1.html and this http://www.rockymountainmc.com/wc.dl...63~OIL~OIL~Oil

                  4 = semi-drying
                  5 = drying
                  6 = hi-temp

                  Also saw a few items about using the 5 instead of the 4.
                  Not sure why they call one drying and the other not, because in the descriptions it appears both are supposed to remain pliable??
                  Didn't see anything about a Threebond equivalent for the 5 and/or 6 Yamabonds.

                    four would be best, five will work also.
                    here they are listed http://www.yamaha-motor.com/accessor...ilter=All&pg=1

                    Ford carries a substance very similar (may be the same stuff)
                    I have a tube of the stuff in my box at work, works very well
                    permatex grey also works good, but yamabond four would be best.

                      6S is a silcone sealant for engine enviroments, would be good for the end plugs on the cam cover and also the cam cover it's self.
                      6B is for exhaust pipes.

                        None of the three local Yamaha dealers have the Yamabond 4 and I can't find a ThreeBond dealer around here. It will be a week before the Beaumont dealer gets some in.

                          Crankcase sealer

                          Hap,

                          Eventhough you don't have a Threebond dealer around maybe the mail order (Parts Unlimited or Dennis Kirk) could find you some Threebond 1211 silicone liquid gasket.

                          It's white so use sparingly on black engine cases or actually anything. A thin uniform layer is best and careful not to squish it into the engine and clog up oil galleries. You probably already know that. I've sealed three engine cases with it. The best gasket sealer I ever used. It's also easy to remove and can be used on clutch cover gaskets and the like. I've reused torn gaskets with oil residue and smeared a thin coat over the gaskets with great success. Carter
