a few questions for the experienced .i am going to learn how to sync my carbs.do you guys recomend the bar with the mercury in it or the seperate guages that i have seen out there? how long will it take to get the hang of doing the job properly ? how much messing about do you have to do on the carbs to get them in sync ?(i know,it depends right ?) .how often do you re-sync the carbs once you get them set ? is this a seat of the pants difference or does it just make it run smoother ? thanks in advance Mark

I would get the mercury tubes, lots easier to use Just make sure to hang them higher that the carbs and DO NOT rev the motor with them connected or it will suck the mercury out

Having the carbs synched accurately and at the correct vacuum levels is a night and day difference in how the bike will run. You will be amazed and will never again consider trying to "by guess and by golly" tune your engine.
It is not difficult, but for a really fine carb synch, you will need to practice being anal retentive. Attention to small detail and slight changes is the key.
Do all adjustment in small increments, working back and forth between all the carbs. When you are ready, start a new topic and we can go into any details.

For my money, the best setup is the Morgan Carbtune. Purchased one about 3 years ago and it makes balancing a breeze. They also sell a tool to help lock the adjustment (doesn't work for my setup).

I use a Motion Pro mercury gauge. Very easy to use and works well. $40.
You should also pick up a couple of fans to cool the motor, especially when you're just learning. These bikes hold their synch's a long time. It's not hard, you just need patience sometimes. We'll help you.
