I dug out the airfilter box and put it in. I still have to get the airbox boots onto the carb. I'll do that tomorrow. I guess I didn't realized these bikes were jetted so lean that taking out some of the intake restriction would screw them up so much.

When you get the airbox installed, be sure you have a filter in it, the boots are clamped tightly to the carbs, the airbox is sealed and the boots dont leak where they enter/join the airbox.
Let us know how it runs after all is installed and tight.

Well I got everything back together and took it for a ride.
WoooHooo! You were right Earl. Everything is great now that the airbox/filter is connected. I wouldn't have thought that the bike was jetted so lean that it would be as bad as it was. You learn something new everyday.
And I guess the dumb@$$ award goes to ME. When in doubt put it back to stock
Can you still get individual jets for these carbs or do you have to go with a kit?
Don't worry I am not going out right now and messing with the jetting
Just curious in case I put on the indiv. style filters at a later date.
Thanks again guys , I like the bike again

individual jets are still available for the bike although, I would not ne inclined to rejet unless and day came along that I had too much hair and needed to pull some out or I had been really bad and needed to beat myself up. :-)
Good to hear youre back to having something to ride. Now, DONT break it!! :-) :-)
