    help.. 1980 GS750ET

    hi all, hoping for some help with my 750. Long story short, Bike ran low on oil and I think I cooked the bearings on the crankshaft. The motor has never been apart to the cases, so I know the crank is not welded. Sounded like a bunch of nuts and bolts just clanking around when it happened. Anyway, I have restored this bike too much to just give up on it, and I need to replace the crank(new one will be welded). I am having some difficulty finding a crank for a 1980 750, but I have seen ones for the 1000, and some newer 750's. Does anyone happen to know if I can use a crank out of another bike?? I understand the 1980 1000 used many of the same parts as the 750, but I do not know about the crank. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, and much needed. thanks, D...

    Is you 80/ 750 a 16 valve I have an 82/750 crank assembly. I was told they changed in 83. Your Engine is a plain bearing crank not a roller brg

      Bike bandit gives the same part # for 80 & 82

        not certain. I thought that the only gs with the plain bearing was the 450. Thought mine was a roller bearing, but now you have me wondering. anywho, what are you looking to get for that crank?? I might be interested. Thx, D...

          Have to split the cases to make sure it's good $25 + shipping
          Look it up on BikeBandit it shows brg inserts

              Definitely 80-82 cranks will work and it is a 1 piece forging, so no welding is needed( or pressing or all the other baloney that goes with roller cranks). As for 83 and up I'm not so sure, I've never owned or worked on one. The top ends were different on them for sure. Easy to work on the 80-82's so there should be no major headaches.Check the rest of the vitals while you're in there just to be sure .

                Just wondering, did Suzuki make an 8 valve 750 after 1979? I don't remember one. All the 8 valve GS 750's were roller bearing cranks, and all the 16 valve GS 750's were plain bearings
