I hate the stock fuel petcock

Like my subject said, I hate my stock fuel petcock! I have owned 5 GS's and had mixed results with these vacuum operated petcocks. I was wondering if anyone knows of a swap to a simple mechanical primary, reserve, off petcock. I do not want to know about rebuild kits, been there done that.... If I don't figure anything out I am going to put a valve in my fuel line, I am looking for some cleaner install than that.

The first thing I do is throw away the stock petcock and install a Pingel petcock. I've been buying them from
    w.streetfighters-usa.com/pingel_power_flo.htm
You will need to order the adapter plate also.
    END OF PROBLEM :-)

I like the Pingel valves also. They come in a choice of styles and are chrome or polished aluminum. They seem to be good quality. Mine w/adapter and shipping was $90.

And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

My 1100ed has a pingel and i just put one on my kz1300. You usually have to grind a little away from the stock petcock opening to receive the pingel filter screen but it is not a big thing. I use pingels because my left hand is weak from a stroke((on the kawabunga) and on the Suzuki, I had my diaphram go bad and also wanted something that would be very easy to move to the reserve position. Just buy a couple of oil and filter changes till you get used to the idea that you MUST turn the fuel supply off I havent changed the petcocks on the 200 honda or the 650 yammy because i really enjoy the simplicity of those bikes. I'll bet im sorry some day.The yammy has a vacume operated petcock.

Earl...correct me if I'm wrong...but whenever one turns the bike off...don't they have to do the same to the Pingle Petcock? Just curious if you find that annoying....

              Yes

You do have to turn them off and on but after a short while, you'll notice that you do it without even thinking about it....sounds a little unlikely but it's totally true.

I have 100,000+ miles, 24 years on my stock petcock and am getting ready to rebuild it for the first time. What really kills the petcock is an owner that allows water to get into the tank. The water eats holes into the sealing sufaces of the petcock and they will never seal again without new/refurbished parts.
