    Taking off front wheel

I know this sounds pretty odd but after owning my '82 GS1100EZ for 22 years I've never had to take off the front wheel myself. I've always taken it in to my dealer to have the front tire changed. Well, it's time for a new tire which is on it's way and I have a motorcycle jack I borrowed from a friend. My question is can the wheel be removed without taking off the brake calipers? The repair manual I have is for '80 and '81s which didn't have anti-dive. It looks like the axle just has to be pulled out and the rotors would just slip out along with the wheel and it would go back in in reverse order. Am I missing something? or do the calipers have to be removed???

the rim will hit the calipers, so they have to come off.

oh!! I almost forgot the important part.
roll up a newspaper tight or some other object and use rubber bands to hold it under the brake lever to keep any one from accidentally squeezing the brake lever with the calipers off.
