Lights grow dim

My 80 gs1000g has a little problem I think?? :roll: The bike has a vetter trunk w/lights and operate only while braking and as running lights, same with windjammer. My problem, my directionals cause all others to dim with each flash. Not a heavy amount but enough to be a nusince. Any ideas? Is it normal?

Have you cleaned and tightened all the connections on the bike? You might think about adding a relay so the headlight gets power straight from the battery instead of having to share power with everything that goes through the ignition switch. Focus Frenzy has a wiring diagram for this. PM him.

Check the ign switch!!. I also have a Vetter w/trunk. I had problems with lights on my 79 850. Any elect load on the lights, brake or turn would cause the lights to dim, most noticable at lower RPM's. Traced to a loss of voltage thru the switch. I too added a relay to the light circuit.

Thanks for the input, I'll give it a go on the connections and look into the relay and switch. Any Idea as to where I might find the items both of you spoke of??

Look for a site user called focus frenzy, his real name is Leon and send him a Personal Message. He can send you the diagram and tell you what to get. You could also do a search for a thread called, "focus frenzy wiring mod" or something like that. It's basically a 20 amp automotive relay like you would use for driving lights and such. You hook up one set of terminals to the existing headlight wires to switch the relay on and off. Then the relay feeds power to the headlight off the battery.
