I use Castrol GTX motor oil for everything I own. Use the recommended weight, probably 10W40. If you want a little more power you should start by thinking of your engine as an air pump. The faster it can pump air from the intake to the tip of the exhaust pipe, the more power it can develop. That said, a set of Pod filters from K&N or UNI, a new less restrictive exhaust system, and a re-jet kit is a good start. I think you should do all three of those mods at the same time. Beyond that, you need to start tearing into the engine to get anything more out of it.

As for oil its probally 10-W40 but if you do a site search you will find a ton of different oils being used. The best thing to do is ask the previous owner and see what he was using and start from there. As for pods check with bikebandit.com or JC Whitney.comComment
