I have been robbed!
I parked my 1980 gs550 at the movies and when I came out, the round chrome plates that cover the tappets on the cam were gone. I cannot seem to find these parts anywhere... does anybody know where I can obtain them or what they are called or a part number?

Shouldn't be too hard to find some on ebay. Not sure??? they look the same as all of the 2 valve motors

Keep looking and try different search criteria.
When I search Suzuki GS I seem to come up with
about a half a dozen every time. They are pretty
common and easy to find. Cheap too. You can also
check bikebandit.com
Maybe even make a post in the Part Wanted section here.
Someone may have some for you.
Those things come loose really easy from vibration. I sure
hope someone didn't take them off your bike. They could have
come off on there own but usually you only lose one or so. It is
weird to lose them all at once. When you put the next ones back
on. Be sure to use some thread locker.
If you get stuck I will gladly help you track some down.

what stinks about it is the fact that an evil GSer is out there... I thought we were the good ones! Maybe it was a guy with a CB exacting some revenge.

Maybe it has something to do with 550's. I had the same thing happen to my GS550L years ago (when those caps were easier to come by, mind you).
Maybe it's the same thief!
Sorry to hear about your loss ... at least when I say I know how you feel, you can be sure that I know how you feel!

There you go $16.62 at www.powersportspro.com . Just set up an account cost nothing just a way for you to track your particular motorcycles. Next time tie a pitbull to your bike, best alarm system in the world, preventative really.

Wow, thats discourging to think that somebody took the time and effort to take such as specific thing off your bike.
I have a extra pair (like for 80 GS850G) but are not the chrome ones, are more like aluminum. Have the holes for the two screws that go thru them (horizontal). Since are not chrome you probably are not interested.
WHen looking for them, keep in mind that some are alunimum, some are chrome. And some have the screws thru them and some have the screws behind them.
THe chrome ones on the GS650G that I had where chorme but had the screws in behind them (vertical). Nobody could take them for the same reason they were so hard to tighten. I heated & bent a phillip screw driver at just the right place and had to use a mirror to tighten those screws (multiple repeated times) - although thats a differernt subject.
And, yah, I see them on ebay on occassion when searching for GS850 parts. Maybe you can search (search, not browse) specifiaclly for the cam caps for any Suzuki GS by using this search "suzuki (gs, gs*) cam (cover, end, cap, caps)". And see if any listed for other models are the same. [didnt see any just now]http://webpages.charter.net/ddvrnr/GS850_1100_Emblems.jpg
Had 850G for 14 years. Now have GK since 2005.

Now none of this matters... somebody hit my bike as it was parked outside. Now my front tire faces the wrong direction. Can you guys believe this luck?
