    fork oil weight

Hello everyone this forum has been a great help thanks to all. I have a 1980 gs1100 and a question regarding fork oil weight . Does anyone have any preferances as to what weight to use or brand? Any insight is helpful thanks.

    Re: fork oil weight

I use 20 weight non detergent oil. Some prefer to use Automatic Transmission fluid as it is a little thinner and gives a softer rebound.

Bel-ray 15wt fork oil with 20cc extra added in each leg for those hard landings.

My mechanic uses 20W BelRay fork oil to exact factory specs in volume. No air necessary. It's been working for me for years. He changes the oil and replaces the seals every two years.
