    1980 GS850G Carb settings.. A little help?

    I've just finished cleaning and rebuilding my carbs for my 80' GS850G. I'm looking for some settings for my air mixture needle and my pilot jet. I've search the past forums and found some more 1000's and 750's. These settings range from 1 turn to 3.5. I also tried my Haynes manual and it says not to mess with it. When I removed my air screw, I tried to remember the settings for each carb. The problem is, all carbs where different!

    My 81 850 GL is set at 2 1/2 turns out when I cleaned my carbs last time. When we sync'd them the were all adjust differently but the 2 1/2 is a good place to start.

      turns out..

      when you say 2&1/2 turns out. how far do a turn the screw in?

      do i turn it till it snug, then start backing it out?

        Turn in all of the screws GENTLY!! Turn them out 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns. This way you should be able to get the engine started.
        Set the idling knob to about 1500 to 2000 rpm. Then gently turn the screw in, starting with carb #1. Find a point, where the engine rpm's peak. This should be the (almost) right setting. Repeat this procedure with the other carbs. Set the idling back to about 1000 rpm.
        Needless to say, you must do this with a hot engine, without any choke used!
        This way, you should get near the correct settings. If you want it to be perfect, take the bike to a shop with the right equipment, and let them do the work for you.
