Took out the 77 750 out today. It's been sitting for some time, and today it really ran bad. Numbers 1 and 3 pipes were hot to the touch, but 2 and 4 were not. Thought it might be a coil but it wasn't. If I left the choke partially on it would run a little better but not much. When you let the clutch out you have to give it lots of gas or it will stall. Ran it for about 3 miles to the gas station for some fresh gas, still ran like crap on the way home. Am I in for a carb rebuild? They were done 4 years ago. Any ideas? Thanks Ric. :? :? :?

You may as well pull the carbs and start cleaning.

Hello, new guy here. I just picked up a '85 GS700 today. Aftyer getting it home and put back together I finally got it fired. I have the same problems as you have but it is the two center cylinders which are running cool as opposed to the outboard ones. It also has a tendency to pop back through the carbs. I figured it is the carbs needing to be cleaned.

Chock and Coze, keep this in mind when pondering your troubles.
- One coil fires cyc 1 & 4, and the other coil fires 2 & 3.
- Each cyclinder has its own carb. I know, you knew that. But each carb has seperate internal ports/jets for idle, for main and for choke. So each carb is almost really like 3 carbs. If you have to keep choke on then one of the other ports/jets probably needs cleaning.

So, yep, maybe take a quick look at plugs first, but sounds like carb cleaning is a reasonable idea for both of you.

Oh, And that popping back thru carbs - I had that once, problem was the little screens above the float needles were jammed with rust ectera, but other dirty carb things can cause same problem. Dont let it get worse, it can blow out the rubber boots on the intake and then you will have more problems/expence yet.

I got the carbs off earlier this evening and will be giving them a thorough soaking-cleaning.
