    what rpm

    Hello All,

What rpm do you guys run your bikes at? Meaning I guess, at what rpm do you guys shift at, and at what rpms do you guys maintain at steady crusing speed at in each gear. Now I know that this all depends on driving style etc. I get a feeling that I may be driving like a little old lady as I never really get beyond 3000 rpm in any gear. The reason I am asking this is that I just want my bike to benifit from proper rpm operation.

    Thanks

what size bike do you have???you are barely running off most peoples warm-up idle 8O . My 700 redlines at 10000 rpms. and dependeing on the ride i generally shift around 5k to 6k going up through the gears.

Cruising at 3k is fine, but the bike likes it when you shift higher then that. 5k if just taking it easy, redline if you're trying to go. The 850 is a pretty torquey motor, and doesn't mind being kept low in the rpms, so do what feels comfy, just don't worry about running thru the rpms when you want to. Another thing to keep in mind is not to run the rpms so low that your engine stutters, or starts knocking when you get on the gas. Your oil pump is driven off your engine, so low rpms will cause a drop in preassure, but only when you go real low, like sub 1k.

I like to keep my 850 running at minimum of 3K usually I shift around 4.5K -6K. I also run it about 6K on the freeway, thats somewhere around 80+ mph The motor likes 4K better you will have more power for maneuvering
