Chain Broke, Need HELP
Hey everyone, well I was out riding today and had my first experience with a chain breaking. Let me tell you that was a shocking feeling. Anyways, like any good boyscout I already had a replacement at home. But to my surprise when i began the installation I discovered that it is a rivet style chain, not a clip-style. So, My question is can anyone help me out with this, I dont have access to a chain press tool, or whatever the thing is called. HELP!!!! even though it's hot outside I still wanna ride.Tags: None

It's a 78 GS550. I already have the new chain on, I just can't set the master link b/c it's the rivet type, not a clip type.

Use a "G" clamp and a small socket to improvise a "rivetting tool".
swap from one pin to the other often to try to ensure it goes on as squarely as possible.

Same as Dink but use a small hammer to peen/fold over exposed rivet after you have bottomed out the link plate against o-rings (sligltly) whilst supporting the rear of the link with another hammer/large metal plate.

If you don't have any luck installing the rivet link, you should be able to buy a clip style master link and put that on your new chain. And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!
