snapped clutch cable
I pulled back the clutch lever on my 850G the other day and the cable snapped at the slot on the lever. Is it easy to replace?Tags: None

Yes
Yes, it's really easy to replace and will only take you a few minutes. Rather than describe the process, my best advice is to take a good look at the existing cable and how it's attached and the route it takes from the lever to the case. :? You will need to take off your gas tank. If you want, you can take off the cable at the top, attach the new one.....then route the new one as you remove the old one. After that, remove the old one at the case and attach the new one. That way, you're more likely to get it just exactly right since removing the old one will be fresh in your mind. I'm sure you'll have no trouble at all.
Since the weather is getting nice, you're probably in a hurry to get it replaced so I'd just go to the dealer and get one there. They may have it and if they don't, they can get it quickly. It will cost you about $18 (as I remember). Oh, and one more thing...inspect the lever to make sure it's not worn...that can cause premature wear on the cable.1980 GS1100E....Number 15!

i agree with chucky cheese. im 18 years old and i only have the mechanical brains of me, and my GS 400 manual. I have done many jobs with this book, including changing the clutch cable. the hardest part of this for me,was getting the clutch cover off. it was a tight fit getting the peg and shift lever off, so i could take the cover off. All in all, easy job. Make sure when fitting the correct cable, that is it adjusted to your likings.
good luck and godspeed,
Tanner

Why
Why? It's not even on the same side of the bike, is it?? I know I had to take the left side case off on a couple of Yamahas I had but I thought the Suzuki's were pretty much... outside mount--on top of the right side case....10 minute job. Not so??1980 GS1100E....Number 15!
