    exploding coil....where to start

    i had a picture of the coil but unable to post....while riding the left coil exploded. where do i start?....got a used coil for $20.00 at a junk yard and installed it condition of used coil unknown. what would cause it to explode? help.... ](*,) not sure if worth salvaging.

    I have (2) coils off of a '78 GS750E that I thought were the cause of an ignition problem. Turned out it was the timing. They are used coils but work as far as I know. Let me know if you are interested.

      Holy cow!! It exploded!? I would say that was a manufacturing error...or pray that it was cause if something else in your bike caused that you've got more problems than just an exploding coil buddy.

        Secondary windings probably shorted.

          I've heard (never seen, send me the pic I'll post it) of this happening when the secondary loses ground (working sparkplug) due to the high voltage looking for a place to discharge to...I'd be checking the associated plugs and plug wires
