PING WHEN HOT
My gs1000g 1980 has a "ping" on accel once it gets hot. Any idea's or is this a normal thing I will have to live with

Any mods? You can up the octane to stop it, but if you don't have any mods it may be a sign of another problem. Possibly some carbon build up? I think tight valves can cause this too, have you checked your clearances lately? You don't want to live with pinging, it's not good for the engine.

Just 4 into 1 for mods, I've only had the bike for 2 years and never did a thing to it but gas, plugs, oil and regulator. Carbon could be possible since the prev owner just rode around town. I should maybe check into a valve adj as well. Is it an easy job?

I'd check the timing first, don't know if it's points or solid state. But you can always back if off a few degress and go for a test ride. Go ahead and mark the plate with a line so you can always set it back if you don't like it.
Turn the plate clockwise 1/4 of an inch and see what happens if you don't have a timing light. And you may have to increase the idle if the motor die's.1166cc 1/8 ET 6.09@111.88
