    Dyna Coils ???

Whats the best Dyna coils to buy? I'm going to buy a Dyna triggers for my MSD MC2 and need to know what coils work best like 3.0, 1.5 or 0.7. It's a dragbike only.

    Thanks

I just looked in the book for an mc-1. It said to use msd coils or 1.5ohm coils. I was running a dyna-s ignition trigger into my mc-2 and was using Dyna 3ohm coils (green). I think these are the ones that dyna recomends to be used with the dyna s. I just upgraded to a schnitz box.

      Thanks Ryan
      I'll get the 1.5 ones.

Let me know how your bike is running, I read alot of good info from you and the guys over at dragbike.

I've been thinking my jets maybe to big too, currently running 160's in CV38mm carbs. Seeing what you and Jeff where using make's me want to do alittle more tuning.

I'm a little depressed over here. All that head work to get into the 9's and I'm running about the same. I'm thinking this head is giving me less compression than the stock one. I've fixed everything else. At this point I want to race it and look at it later. I've been racing my street bike because I thought something was wrong with it when it only ran in the 10 teens. I took it to the strip the past two weeks and got into the finals both weeks. In the bonus runoff after winning the class saturday I almost had a perfect run. I went .499 red and then ran 10.210 on a 10.21 dial. After racing the dragbike I have a hard time with the street bike. It leaves alot slower and I cant cut a light. If you think the bike is rich run it on a dyno with an a/f meter. I ran mine on one a couple weeks back and found I was a tad lean and I added 2 deg timing to 34. I went from 125 to just over 130. No guess work this way. In my 36 flatslides I'm running 132.5, but I'm not sure how that relates to your carbs. Catch you later.

ps. Maybe you could just check with msd and make sure on the coils. My bike ran great on the green ones.

What type of fuel are you using, cause when I used VP110 as compared to VP103 I ran slower by a couple tenth's. So I only use 103 now and I'm at 13-1 compression.

I'm thinking of trying just high test and backing off on the timing and see what happen. The problem I have with racing fuel is that it leaves a stain on the plugs and it's hard to get a good read on them. They don't look wet at all but I feel it's still rich, run my finger in the pipe and I get a black residue.

Good Luck on your bike and I hope you do get to 9.90. (maybe worn clutch plates?)

Could you send me your last'est 1/8 times and mph and 330ft's. I like to compare times cause nobody else run's a GS around here.

          Thanks

I'm running that sunoco GT 100. Its the highest octane street legal fuel made. I get it from a pump up the road from me. I'm afraid to run the 94. If the bike was pinging there is no way I would hear it with the pipe. You know what I'm talking about.

Let's see 8th mile times. My best pass on saturday
            Rt.- .509
            60- 1.42
            330- 4.09
            660- 6.38 @ 108
            1320-10.12 @ 128

My other 1/8th mile passes were 6.38, 6.41, 6.39, 6.39, 6.40, 6.40, and finally with a really hot slipping cluth it went back to back 6.43's. I've been messing with the clutch trying to figure out the best setup. The first one or two passes or if there is too much time before first round it wants to bog the motor off the line. Then when we start going rounds it gets really hot and wants to slip. Then the 60's slow way down. This weekend I added weight to the arms and took out a little spring. At the end of the night the clucth was slipping bad like normal, but then the lockup was coming in around the tree. I swear it felt like the front tire was coming off the ground 60' out. I might try launching at 6900 until after the third round of eliminations if I make it that far. Then turn it down 300 - 400 RPM and see what that does. I need an easy way to cool the clutch pack and oil down between rounds.

That's a good 660 time and that should put you in the high 9's. Looks like something on the high end is causing the problem. Last year was'nt your best 660 at 6.60, the motor has picked up a few tenth's. Maybe a fuel flow issue?? fuel filter, fuel tank.

              Good Luck
I know it's something simple but the hard part is trying to find it.

PS. Jack that bike up and check the brakes, does the wheels turn freely.

I just checked my old time slips. Last year it was running right about the same in the 8th. The stock pistons and head ran in the 6.60-6.70 range. When I went to the 1166 piston and stock head I started running 6.38 - 6.41. The 6.38 - 10.11 last year was in the fall. I would expect I should pick up a tenth or so in the 1/4 once the weather cools back off. So maybe this fall I'll see a 10.0 something. Still not in the 9's.

The rear brake was one of the first things I checked before I took the motor back apart. I did have a little air in the system, but got it fixed and adjusted correctly. This is the first change I've made where I haven't picked up anything.

What are you getting time wise with the bars on. your 60' and all that included. As I recall your running 348 lift cams, stock valves, and an 1166 high compression kit.

The first time out with bars my best 60ft was 1.52, 330 was 4.24 and 660 was 6.61. Bike was great until I did a few hole shots at 7 grand with the stock clutch. My front engine mount did'nt like it. So I tore it all apart and welded around the mount. It's back together and ran great last week but I have'nt put the bars back on yet but this Friday they will be on and will see if I can do better.

I'm using G4 cams with 38mm CV 750 carbs that I just replaced my 160's jets with some 150's so will see how they do too.

Do you have compression number from last year on your engine before the head work was done to compare.

No I don't. I need to cc the head on the bike now to the head that used to be on the bike. In order to do that I need to take the head back off. I'm not going to do that right now if I don't have to. I'm in the middle of adjusting the valves and changing the oil right now. We have a main event on friday and out double points night on saturday. I'm going to be busy this weekend.

I also just hooked a co2 system up to my bike. I ran it into my swingarm, but the pressure doesn't regulate very well. Something neat to tinker with. http://www.rccracing.com/P003916.jpg

Oh it a different head, that might be the reason. Maybe it's alittle lower in the compression area.

Good Luck, Did I say you got a nice bike!
