Engineering options for valve adjustment
Would it hold true that all DOHC valvetrains must use shims for adjustment while SOHC valvetrains can employ an adjusting mechanism of sorts, only because it can be mounted on a rocker arm?Tags: None

I have an '85 Honda Nighthawk with a DOHC 16-valve engine, and it doesn't use any valve adjustment at all. It uses rockers with little baby hydraulics (for lack of a better term).

Kawasaki ZRX DOHC 16 valves uses shims. My 82 200 Honda SOHC has adjustment screws, 79 GS 1000 uses shims.

Cool
Just asking because all I've ever owned are SOHC valvetrains: the CB250 in my signature and an '82 BMW 320i (4 cyl SOHC). Both are adjustment style, no shims to replace. The GS is my first DOHC
