Carb question

I have a '81 gs550. It has been sitting for multiple years so I took the carbs off and rebuilt them (they are CV), but in the rebuild kit there was not a replacement for the rubber plug that is in the bottom part of the carb. I was just wondering if it is critical for this plug to seal because the old one that is in it does not. Also if anyone has had experience with removing and putting back in these carbs I was wondering if i should put the intake flanges on the motor first or place them on the carbs before putting them in. Thanks in advance, and this is a great website that you guys have here. Has already been a big help.

That plug is very important Replace it

I'm 99% sure you would put the flanges on the engine first on your bike..

check ebay for parts.. a lot of e-stores sell parts for a decent price there..
