    Exhaust Leak

    Under my stock pipes where the muffler meets the headers I have a real small hole on both sides, I guess from just sitting around and was wondering if I could plug it with JB Weld or a similar product

    That might work!

    I had the same two holes on my 82 1100, and also on the cross section where the four become two.

    I used something called Stick-It by United Labs. I put a dab on the two small holes and for the big part up front I made a pancake sized patch and wrapped it all the way around the pipes and let it sit 24 hours and it has now been 2 years with no leaks yet!!

      It depends on the size of the hole. I had a couple of holes in my mufflers; one similar to yours, and one much larger. I had a welding shop make the repair, and while it's not invisible, it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb either.

        For the leaks in my system I've had excellent luck using a mix of JBWeld and steel wool scouring pads. Pick apart the pad and roll the pieces into little balls (big enough to fill the holes). Wipe it through some JB Weld and stick it into place. I also use a screw driver to force this mix into the hole.

          Two words: Exhaust Cement. I don't know where you can get it, I believe the auto parts store near you will know, but as a mechanic I can tell you this stuff does not come off or corrode much. Sometimes it makes my life a living hell, but it does it's duty... even on radiators... DON'T PUT IT ON RADIATORS! AAAHHHHHH!!! NIGHTMARES!!!!!!

            Are the pipes rusted and getting thin? If not, those little holes are meant to drain condensation, so the pipes won't rust from the inside. They're positioned at the lowest point of the exhaust system. They are supposed to be there!

              Try exhaust tape

              I had the same problem with my 850, and tried some of that exhaust tape. The first time I put it on it came right off because I didn't do a good job of cleaning the surface first. For the second application, I used a little steel wool to pull off the surface rust, cleaned it off really nice and applied the tape. It's been 4,000 miles since I did this and it's still running leak free.

              Keep in mind though that my problem was in the pipe 2/3 collector unit located under the bike so the tape doesn't show (which is actually the only shiny thing on the bike!!!)
