    Regulator

    I have a 1977 SUzuki GS400

Can I use any regulator from any GS series or can it only be from the 400? I did the test via my shop manual and it's bad.

Mmmm... I'm inclined to say that you need the proper one, not necessarily from a 400, but not necessarily just any one from a GS. For that matter, yours is bad because they're all wimpy.

The Electrex site specifies an RR10 if I recall correctly. The Honda replacement seems to work well. Give it a shot.

I'm using one from a 1976 CB550. I hear the CB twins 78-82 are ideal. Somebody was also recently talking about using one from a CX.

        Check out these threads:

The essential details are that the RR must be for a three-phase charging system, and you must have both a rectifier and a regulator. On some bikes they are two separate pieces.

            650 savage

Just replaced mine with one from a 650 Savage, a lot better looking unit, the heat sink is at least double in size. A few minor wiring changes and it's done and working like a top....Mike
