I had a similar problem once on my '83 GS750ES. After riding awhile at high speed the bike would die and I would have to sit a few minutes before it would restart. What it turned out to be was a fuel tank vent problem. The vent line under the tank was pinched somewhere. I was also using a tankbag and I imagine it was sealing the gas cap from properly venting too. This all resulted in a vacuum in the tank that wouldn't allow fuel to flow.

OK, so it's not an issue of immediate supply, but prolonged supply (if it's a gas issue at all). A vent issue can be easily checked buy just riding it one time with the cap off, or part way on (although I don't know if you can do that). Don't do it on a full tank, we wouldn't want gas to splash out.

Chances are, if it's a vent issue, you can ride it hard in town because you always have stop signs and signals to allow the bowls to fill up again while in an idle state, but if the flow is steady it'll run the bowls low. Axel may have something there...

How long can you ride it in town, low speed, with no problems? All day?

Could be a vent problem - clean out the tank cap, may be crud in it.

Also I have had the filters clog through bad gas etc. Is there a good flow of petrol through the tap, if you have a fuel filter does it flow more with or without it. If flow from the tap is poor, clean the unternal fine mesh.

Those are the main reas. Just a matter of logical elimination of one or more problem.....

I think it could be one of two things.
                    1. The floats are set too low, there for your not getting enough gas to keep it happy at high speeds or
                    2. Your float bowl could be full of junk such as rust and dirt silt. If you have any rust in the gas tank then some of it can and will get by the fuel filter. I have to empty out mine about once a month. I will be getting the tank cleaned and rustproofed this winter but some of the silt can still get into the carbs. I know when mine are getting too full because at say 50 or so I try a roll on and it rolls up slow. Drain the float bowls and the power is back.
