Put the Batt sensor wire on the + Batt terminal. Out goes the light.

Thats funny because I was going to say almost that exact thing. There is a 6 or 8 pin connector above the #3 exhaust valve that has a habit of working loose and then corroding, causing loss of continuity intermittently. You loose dash lights and/or turn signals briefly. That would be the first thing I would check. If it gets really bad, you also lose ignition. Ask me how I know. lol

the black box with the rubber band that holds it to the frame above the carbs????

THat is the control box I am speaking of... If the connectors are loose, corroded, or simply bad, i have seen my gauge package go berserk. This is why i ziptied it together, after cleaning all the contacts and greasing them. Ive not heard tell of the box itself going bad, but id hate to think about it, as A LOT of wires go into that sucker, and its all hardwired inside from what i can tell..

Does the box have any effect on the tach? My tach is sometimes sluggish.

Not that I know of, No. I'm inclined to "guess" that you have a capacitor going bad inside the tach. There are two that are usually the culprit.
We had a long time GSR member in Sweden that cross referenced those capacitor specs to radio shack items to replace them with. I had to do that with my 1150. I believe the guys name was karl, but thats all I remember. It must be 8 years or more since I have seen him on the board.

For a moment, I thought that was another picture of Jethro in the kitchen again or Joe Nardy at the bar B Que grill. LMAO

No, your tach has effect on your tach...

LOTS of threads about this (do a search LMAO) but basicly Jim (pos) and I and a couple of other people have been lookin at this, and it is the board, the caps, and eventually, the main chip that start to burn out that cause the tach to freak out. I have a spare board and gauge pack that im going to send to Jim for him to look at, and see what that chip sees and then converts whatever signal to to make the tach work. Hopefully, at some point, we'll be able to find a modern, easily obtainable replacement chip, and if necessary, print new boards to install. The theory that ive seen most is that the capacitors, which are electrolytic, (basicly just batt acid soaked into cardboard and wraped up and sealed) dry out, and this starts the process of burning everything else out. Another thought is that the board is set up to look at a 12 or 12.5v signal at the coils, which if everything is working right, ISNT what its going to see, and the over current is whats doing the damage after time...Dunno for sure, but hopefully soon we'll have formulated a fix...

                    yeah,
battery sensor wire hooked to 12 volts takes care of that light..
                    hell,
iva bought 1150's with a piece of electrical tape over the battery light
so whats up with this evil box that we now have a picture of???
i have put a wire tie through the connecters before..cant remember ever fixing the twilight zone lights this way.
its been about 50/50 on the 1150's ive owned...
half act stupid, other half didnt.
i think the similar model instrument bikes..1100ES/83-86 750E/700E/ES ect.. may have some of the same traits with the flashy flashy disco lights.
                    F---- it!!
cut it up and make a dragbike...

Gotta clean the contacts too..part of the problem is after its worked loose, it will corrode rather quickly, especially if it still has a partial connection there..

i think this 1150 had a 20 bolt valve cover
