    Shop/mechanic in CT/RI area?

In the process of putting a long-stored GS400 back on the road and am at the point where I'd like access to a professional (or more knowledgeable (than I) amateur) cycle mechanic. Have been told with disdain by the two motorcycle shops nearest me that "we don't work on bikes that old. . ."

Any suggestions on a shop/person in the Connecticut/Rhode Island vicinity?

    Thanks,

    Seth

Hey, what part of Connecticut are you in? I'm in Lisbon, and if you know where that is then you're close enough to perhaps ride with every once in a while.

How is this related to this thread? Simple:
I may need a mechanic sometime as well, and would like to know for reference.

      Mechanic

Well, I recently took my bike(1981 GS550T) into Columbia Motorsports in Columbia, CT. They are a fairly new shop and will work on older bikes if the problems are not to serious. (ie: they don't have to work on the engine..) I am told that they will welcome my bike for more serious work in the winter. Call em, they are listed. There is also a guy from Southern CT on here (sorry, no name), that has some places in southern ct that do good work..

The guy in Southern Ct name is Gerryy, at least on this site. You can search for him and email him from here. Search the memberlist

It may be a little far for you, but also worthwhile. I'm in Southern NH and have a good friend that is planning on opening a repair/restoration only shop. He took my GS1100EX in and in a month (not long, really) had the basket case of a motor purring like a kitten. His rates are very reasonable, he gets parts for cheaper than retail, and does not mark them up. He is a weekend warrior racer, and just loves to work on bikes. Let me know if you have any interest in going through him, I guarentee he is cheaper than the local shops, and his work is stellar. Send a PM if you want me to hook you up with him.

I ride, therefore I am.... constantly buying new tires.

Ever try Burt Ives or Ives and Sons in Willimantic? New England Cycle in Groton? Columbia Motorsports in Columbia? Those are the suggestions I got (the guy I bought the bike from did his own work).
