    Wiring Question

Hello everyone, after 2 seasons my OEM voltage regulator finally died, I replaced it with a electrex unit and everything is charging good again. My question is, according to my clymer manual the red/white wire that connects to the regulator is the same as the white/green coming from the stator. according to the wiring schematic the white/green wire runs from the stator into the wiring harness, reaches a plug and makes a u-turn and comes back as a white/red wire running into the regulator. Does this serve any purpose? if not I would like to run the wire right from the stator directly to the voltage regulator to cut down any resistance.I havent had a chance to chase wires to see if the book is correct on the wires, but I figured I would ask if anybody knows if its true, has anyone else bypassed this loop? my bike is a 1982 Gs750E. thanks for the help! \/

dosn't the white/green & white/red run to and from the R/H switch gear? I know when I did the Honda R/R mod on my Kat I was able to do away with those two.[/quote]

It runs to the light switch Go ahead and eliminate the loop

I havent checked my schematic, but I think that wiring (related to the stator) that makes a "U-Turn" at the end of the wiring harness then and comes back is what used to go to the light switch previously when there was a light on-off switch (like 1979 or so). WHen you switched the light switch on the switch also had other contacts that turned on one of the stator windings. And it was a few more years before they changed the wiring harnes. So that current from that winding of the stator has to travel up that harness thru two connections and back. And those connections and other connections between the stator and the R/R have been a problem for me.

          - Oh, to answer your specific question: Yes, I have eliminated that U-Turn loop in question. Connect that stator wire directly to the R/R wire.

Yeah the loop was for the on off switch that came on the british and canadian bikes. Eliminate it. Serves no purpose.
