I have an '82 GS1100 that I have done a top end rebuild on. She started right up for me with no problem. However, there is a lot of noise (of the clicking and ticking variety) from under the cam cover. Is this common on newly rebuilt engines? More specificly, will this lessen as engine oil works its way under the tappet shims?

Top end noise after rebuild
Howdy Y'all.

Yes, I did check and correct the valve clearances. Since my original post on this thread, I took the lid off the engine to check again and found all is well. I was of course, stumped. So, I decided to remove the cams and dig a little deeper. When I went to the cam chain tensioner to lock it in position for removal, I found that I had forgotten to engage it to begin with. I think I have found the source of the racket. I'll close her back up in the AM and verify this.
