correcet coils
I just fixed my gs1100 coil problem with dyna coils and a little rewiring. My 79gs750 is sooting the plugs and I'm going to get dyna coils for it also. What ohm. coils do I want for a points ignition system, and if I later upgrade to a dyna s or dyna III ig. system will the same dyna coils work for all. Thanks JT.Tags: None

My '79 GS1000E came with points. I first installed a Dyna ignition and kept the stock coils. Several years later, I replaced the coils with Dyna coils. (3 ohm, the green ones.)And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

For your planned changes get the 3 ohm green coils PER Dyna installation Instructions "For breaker points, the 5 ohm coils should be use or the 3 ohm coils can be used and a 1 to 2 ohm ballist resistor placed in the 12 v line going to the coils."
When you install the dyna ign, just remove the resistor and you will have the 3 ohm coils for the dyna ign

The points bikes specify coils with 2 to 6 ohm primary resistance. 3ohm or thereabouts are the most common coils (GSX-Rs, bandits etc)
