I'm also interested in doing my own valve clearances. I did a search but couldn't find a good writeup. Does anyone want to help me out and describe the process? I've been as deep as removing the valve cover and re-tourqing the head bolts, but I never did the clearances.

Recomended service schedule
So now that I'm buying a low mileage 83 GS 1100E, I want to make sure I perform the recomended maintenence. Does anybody know the factory maintenence schedule for the 83 1100's? Like cam chain maintenence, head bolts, etc.

Cylinder head bolt: thread diameter 6: 5.0-8.0 lb-ft torque
Cylinder head nut: thread diameter 10: 25.5- 29.0 lb-ft torque
Didn't see anything of cam chain maintenance. Will look deeperDoug aka crag antler
