78 GS 1000E compatability with 79 GS 1000E

I have a 90% complete 78 GS 1000E with no title. Can I build it on a 79 GS 1000E frame? Local dealers think so but I'm concerned about the plastic seat and tank mountups. I gladly welcome any insight on this project.

It should be no problem to change everything over. The only question I would trial fit the seat and tail section. I understand the early 78s were shaped different at the tail? The mounting is probably the same

That was only the 750's. Not the 1000's.

The 79 and 78 tails were identical in fit. I gave my 79 tail to a friend who had put a 79 tank on his 78, so I got his 78 tail...since everything was going to be painted on my bike anyway, at least that gave him matching 79 pinstripes (on his 78 ). confused?
