    Will '81 GS550 forks bolt up to a '78 GS550?

I have some pitting on the upper part of my left fork, and its starting to work its way down to the area that the fork seal travels. I'm thinking the only way to solve this probelm is to get the fork tube chrome dipped ($expensive$) or replace with a used fork that is not pitted.

My local M/C wrecker has a pair of forks from an '81 GS550. Will they fit on my '78 550? I would use both pair to be sure each side is the same.

They look the same as my forks. I'm sure they'd fit on the triple tree's, but would the caliper, fender and everything else fit?

    Thanks
    Jeff

Go for it just use your original tree, it's also a good time to check the steering head brgs.

I'll go for it. I'm pretty sure the fender bolt holes are slightly different, but not by much. It seems that the old GS's used slightly skinnyer front fenders.

        Lyn,
The steering head bearings were replaced no more then 5000 Km's ago. I'm assuming there still good...I hope.
