    GS550T stock pipe modification question

The previous owner of my '81 gs550t pulled/drilled out the plugs at the end of the stock exhaust system to provide a better engine sound. Would this negativily effect engine performance? Would it cause issues problems with the engine? (heat/etc). If so, could I just solder on some small sheet metal slugs? I just want to treat the engine right since it's only at 22,000.

as far as I can tell there are no ill effects from such a modification. (my bike wastreated the same way by the PO)

If you love it, let it go. If it comes back....... You probably highsided.

How much better does it make the bike sound? I was thinking about doing that to my bike because I want a little better sound then the nasal sound the little twin makes (and as a poor college student it has been determined I can't afford and aftermarket set). Is it a truely better sound? Deeper or louder or what?

the 550 is a 4cyl. :-) It just makes it sound obnoxious.

i agree...don't do it... you'll just end up with a harley wanna-be kinda sound.

Leave em stock, and just keep your rpms high around town if you want attention...

Ya I knew the 550 was a 4 banger, but my little 450 is a twin, that is why i made the comment. Thanks though, maybe I will leave it alone till I hear one.
