Engine Cleanup Series
Has anyone done an ?Engine Cleanup Series?? My Climer Manual dosent give me the confidence I need to begin this project. So, I am looking for an idiot proof step by step on tearing down and putting my engine back together. The Carburetor Cleanup Series was perfect. Now My 80? GS850G is leaking oil and needs to have all the seals replaced. I?d prefer not to tear into the tranny, or give it a full blown overhaul. I am just looking to stop the leaking.

not as bad as you might think
I am about halfway through a complete rebuild of a 79 gs850 engine. All I have for help is my Clymer manual, the GS Resources and a few questions aswered by my local motorcycle mechanic. Before this project the most I had done was spark plugs, oil changes etc. Before I actually got into it I read through my Clymer several times and stuff still seemed a little scary, but once I got into it, the descriptions and pictures made a lot more sense. As a whole it seemed pretty complex, but once you have everything apart it is amazing how simple these engines really are. I have taken pictures of just about every step in the process and eventually I would like to make a "how to" but that won't happen for a while, in the mean time pm me and I can maybe help with a picture or description from my own experience.
Good Luck.

I'm pretty good at figuring things out, but by no means an ace mechanic. I find that the Clymer and the Factory Manual combined give me all the info I would ever need. It's all about following instructions! Oh, and a lot of money for tools- the right tools.Currently bikeless

Find a motorcyle engine rebuild guide at the library.
If you have never done an engine rebuild reading a book about it may help. I found a book at my school library from "MMI" on how to rebuild different types of motors. I still havn't done my own yet, but I have a pretty good understanding of what I will need to do, and the order to do it in.
