Struts to replace the rear shocks

hey guys how hard is it to make some stuts for a 83 gs650e i want to lower the rear as far as posible i am a short guy 5'6"and does any of you live near detroit MI ?

depends on how complicated you want to make them.... you can just weld a clevis onto one end of a piece of barstock, drill a hole in the other, or if you have a 2-eye bolt type shock, a piece of bar stock with a hole in each end will work, if you want to make them adjustable you'll need to work a segment in there with some threads and a locknut...you'll probably want to pick up a kidney belt , especially with the chuckholes around Detroit...you'll lose a bunch of cornering ability too, the amount you lose will depend on how low you go

And if you ride with a passenger,they won't be happy.....

Plusnit won't handle very well. Now the rear end will always be parallel
versus each side shock compressing as needed.

You would have to relocate your shock mounts or use shorter shocks. Be sure to lower your front forks by the same amount to maintain stability.

I am just around the corner in dearborn, on Outer Drive.
