    1978 gs twin petcock

my problem is i have no petcock for my tank........... question is do i need one?.... can i use a ON and OFF valve just in the fuel line? .....will any of this affect engine performance?

please help any input would be appritiated. one more thing if your up to it.

..does the ammount of vacuum entering a petcock regulate and adjust the fuel flow via engine rpm to keep too much or too little from falling into tha carbs??

    In order. yes and no.
Be sure to block off the vacuum feed and you are away.

      petcock

Thanks for that, so i should be fine if i used an on off valve or a another petcock not vacuum operated and just block off the vacuum line......still id like to know if the amount of vacuum going to the petcock adjusts for fuel flow?

No, it just opens or closes the petcock.
You can replace the petcock with a regular one without any problems, as long as you block the vacuum line to the carbs.
A 6mm bolt fits perfectly in the vacuum line....
