    Air box

When you replace the stock air box with a filter or filters the engine runs more lean ...is that why u have to rejet and isnt a air box better since it has more capacitie..........once i get the bike running i dont want to have to go through the paces of rejetting.....i thaught that since the filter would be more flowing it would run leaner all i did was move the clip down on the needle when i rebuilt the carbs...so now its higher ....would that do anything or no? Make it get more fuel to concempate with the air

Pod filters give more airflow then the stock airbox, and therefore makes the engine run leaner. If you modify your airbox you may be able to get more air flow capability thru the airbox, if done just right.

If you move the clip down on the needle you will make the midrange richer, as it holds the needle up higher. Changing from pods to air box, or box to pods will require a main jet change, and a needle change, or adjustment. It may require other adjustments as well.

hey thanks for you help just one more thing if u will....what is the point of having the adjustable air screws on the side of each carb what do they do when u turn them in and out?

The screws adjust your idle mixture, but it depends which carb you have as to which way does what. If you have the CV carb there is one screw per carb on the top of the outlet of the carb. Turn it clockwise to lean it out, counterclockwise to richen it. If you have VM carbs you have 2 screws per carb, the air screw is on the top of the outlet I think, but am not sure, turn it clockwise to richen the mixture, counter clockwise to lean it. On the bottom side of the carb is the fuel screw, which is much more sensitive to adjustment, clockwise leans the mixture, counterclockwise richens it.

cool thanks for the input....i went to a different air filter and i dont wanna rejet i was hoping i could just turn out the air screws to make a richer idle i already moved the clip down on the one jet but for full throttle am i going to need to buy a bigger main jet at the bottom of the float

            Maybe, or maybe not....

Sometimes just raising the floats 1 or 2 mm's will suffice. Along with raising the needle and enrichening the idle circuit. I think you could do this with ONE foam air filter (Uni type), but when going to 4 pods, you will probably have to change the main jets too.
