    coils good or bad

82gs1100E, Left spark plug in cylinder and pulled wire, attach a spark plug to wire, ran bike at 3,000rpm nice blue consistent spark, with bike between idle and 2,000 rpm the spark is blue but not consistent. Did this for all four spark plug wires. The spark for cylinder 1 and 4 is always blue and conssitent at all engine rpms. Will clean wires to coil and see what happens, and then try switching coils around, should I be looking at the signal generator? Thanks

Yeah try switching your coils, if that dosent work.. This may be stupid I'm donno but.. maybe your carbs are out of sync?

I just saw this thread. Am I reading the original post correctly that there is a strong, consistend spark on 1&4, but a weaker spark on 2&3?

If that is the case the most obvious suspect would be the coil for cyl 2&3 or perhaps its connections or ground. What happend when you swapped the coils?
Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.

        replaced coil

Okay I replaced the coil and spark plug, all appears fine now. I also did a carb sync after replacing the coil and spark plug. Both remedies improved idle.
