degree wheel question

This may be trivial but...

Having been doing a lot of reading about degreeing cams I have seen degreeing information where in one case the intake valve is shown to open on the 2 o'clock side of TDC and in a different case is shown to open on the 10 oclock side on the degree wheel.

I figure this is due to which side of the crank you mount the degree wheel to and thus the direction of rotation right?

If I am rotating my degree wheel clockwise(in the direction of normal rotation), BTDC is when TDC on my degree wheel has not passed by my TDC needle say in the 2 o'clock area on the degree wheel?

Rotate in the normal direction the engine is running.

Yes, that is correct.

In case there's any confusion here, clockwise if your turning from the right side of a GS1100, counter clockwise if your turning from the left side of the engine. Pretty easy to go the wrong way and get confused. Dialing in cams is pretty basic, you can do the long complicated way or the simple way as per Cam Motion(both come up with same #'s). Every one has there own way, keep your #'s low with a street engine with limited mods. Check your compression and than dyno your bike.
